Greenhouse gas emissions, dry matter intake and feed efficiency of young Holstein bulls

چکیده
Livestock farming is directly responsible for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, mainly due to enteric fermentation. Feed efficiency in livestock species generally evaluated through feed conversion ratio (FCR) and residual intake (RFI), which are associated GHG emissions. The aim of this study was characterise FCR RFI relation body traits, intake, feeding behaviour emissions Holstein bulls. Data were collected between May 2018 July 2020 on 111 animals. Pearson correlations studied traits estimated the residuals obtained from a linear mixed model included fixed effect covariate age bull dependent variable random bull. To assess same implemented firstly by including (2 classes) secondly classes). Correlations dry matter (DMI) ranged 0.25 (CH4) 0.36 (CO2). strongest relationship DMI (0.86). showed weak moderate with (0.12–0.31). Animals belonging low classes had lower significant reduction Results present highlighted differences terms among tested animals; further research needed their progeny investigate genetic background emission-related traits. HighlightsFeed emission gases vary bulls.Dry strongly positively associated.Animals endowed greater intake. Results will be useful select animals efficiency.

Feedlot efficiency implications on greenhouse gas emissions and sustainability.
The term sustainable has many meanings, but in agriculture it generally refers to some balance between environmental, social, and economic goals. The objective of this project was to quantify inputs and outputs to assess the sustainability implications of 2 feedlot cattle management systems: Never Ever 3 (NE3) and a conventional (CON) system using metabolic modifiers. Angus-cross steers (n=104)...
متن کاملImpact of cow size on dry matter intake, residual feed intake, metabolic response, and cow performance.
Thirty-eight Angus-cross beef cows were used to evaluate differences in DMI, residual feed intake (RFI), and endocrine markers on the basis of cow size and RFI ranking during 2 stages of production. Cows housed in individual pens (2.2 × 9.1 m) were fed, over a 70-d feeding period, 30% Bermuda grass hay and 70% ryegrass baleage diet during lactation (LACT) and a 100% ryegrass hay diet during pos...
متن کاملReducing Australia’s Greenhouse Gas Emissions
Interim targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are essential to put Australia on track toward the deep emissions cuts required by 2050. This report fi nds that by 2020, emission reductions of greater than 30 per cent below 1990 levels are possible, but only with a wide range of concerted actions in the energy, industry and land-use sectors. If the contributions from energy effi ciency in th...
متن کاملGreenhouse gas emissions from rice
Rice provides the staple food for over 60% of the world’s population. Globally 80% of rice is grown by small farmers in low income and developing nations, and in India rice farming is a key source of employment for the 60% of Indian workers still dependent on agriculture for work. Yet rice production is also an important source of greenhouse gas emissions, for example responsible for between 3 ...
